Vacancy - Mechatronics Engineer

About DENSsolutions

DENSsolutions is a fast growing high tech company, based in the Netherlands, active in the field of nanotechnology, developing research equipment based on MEMS devices for in situ microscopy. Nanotechnology is considered to be key for meeting the challenges of today’s world in clean technologies, semiconductors, health and climate change.

About the position

DENSsolutions is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Mechatronics Engineer to join our multidisciplinary team. In this role, you will be responsible for driving innovation in the design, integration, and optimization of fine mechatronic systems. Your expertise in both mechanical engineering and electronics will be crucial as you work on key projects focused on enhancing the functionality and performance of our in situ microscopy systems. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of both mechanical and electronic systems, with a focus on practical problem-solving and the ability to troubleshoot complex mechatronics issues.

This role will fully involve hands-on engineering, from optimizing existing holders for in-situ transmission electron microscopy (TEM) to designing new mechanical stages compatible with various platforms (e.g., SEM, synchrotron). Additionally, you will be responsible for developing the appropriate control units with the correct electronic design, ensuring seamless integration of hardware components. A key aspect of this role will also be collaborating with our Software division to ensure proper software-hardware integration, enabling optimal system performance and functionality. You will also play a key role in integrating advanced capabilities, such as high-frequency features and biasing under cryogenic conditions, while improving the electronics in our systems. Ultimately, you will contribute to the development of high-quality mechatronic systems that meet the demands of cutting-edge research, collaborating closely with experts across various fields of technology.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and technical decisions for mechatronic systems in the company.
  • Focus on optimizing and improving existing holders for in situ TEM purposes, ensuring they meet the highest standards of performance.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex mechatronics issues in components exposed to cryogenic temperatures.
  • Integrate advanced features such as high-frequency capabilities and electronics optimization.
  • Design and develop new mechanical stages compatible with platforms such as SEM, XPS and synchrotron.
  • Optimize the electronics of key systems, including our Heating Control Unit, Liquid Supply System and the Gas Supply System.
  • Work closely with the production and quality control teams to ensure designs meet manufacturability and high-quality production standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including mechatronics, mechanical engineering, software, and micro & nano engineering to develop cutting-edge systems.
  • Stay up to date with new manufacturing technologies to continually improve the specifications and capabilities of our systems.
